Culture & history
Salzburg’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, within a small area, combines narrow lanes, spacious squares and impressive buildings. The following sights are just a small selection—there is much more waiting to be discovered.
Hohensalzburg Fortress
Perched high above the city, it shapes the skyline and offers sweeping views over Salzburg’s rooftops and the surrounding mountains.
Cathedral & Residenzplatz
With its baroque architecture, Salzburg Cathedral—together with Residenzplatz and its fountains—forms the historic heart of the city.
Getreidegasse & Mozart’s birthplace
The famous Getreidegasse, with its wrought-iron guild signs, is one of Austria’s best-known shopping streets. Mozart’s birthplace is also located here.
Experience Salzburg in every season
Salzburg shows a special side all year round.
In spring, the outdoor dining areas open around the Old Town and along the Salzach; in summer, the Salzburg Festival, concerts and events shape cultural life. When parks and gardens glow in warm colours in autumn, a calm, atmospheric mood sets in. And in winter, the Christmas markets at Cathedral Square and Residenzplatz create a festive atmosphere against a historic backdrop.

Enjoy, stroll & discover
Beyond the well-known sights, Salzburg thrives on its small moments:
a walk along the Salzach, a coffee in a traditional café, or a leisurely stroll through the Old Town lanes.
From traditional markets to modern exhibitions, Salzburg combines history with contemporary city life.

Salzburg Festival
Every summer, Salzburg becomes a stage of international standing. Since 1920, the Salzburg Festival has attracted artists and guests from all over the world. Opera, drama and concerts transform the city into a unique cultural space—from the Felsenreitschule to the Grand Festival Hall.
Even outside the festival season, music and theatre shape Salzburg’s cultural life throughout the year.
