Piste tour: Radstadt–Altenmarkt ski area | Easy

Ski tour on a groomed ascent track

In the Radstadt–Altenmarkt ski area, there is a designated ascent track for ski tourers. The route leads from Radstadt or Altenmarkt up to the Kemahdhöhe in the heart of the ski area. You can enjoy the ascent on safe, marked trails and then ski comfortably back down into the valley on the groomed pistes.

This piste tour is particularly suitable for beginners or for anyone who would like to try ski touring on secured routes.

Note: Please note that a ticket is required to use the designated ski touring route on the Fageralm.

Brief route description
The marked ascent track starts at the valley station of the Radstadt–Altenmarkt ski area. From there, the route leads steadily uphill to the Kemahdhöhe.

Along the way, you will repeatedly enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding winter landscape. Once you reach the destination, you can enjoy the panorama in the centre of the ski area before descending back into the valley on the groomed pistes.

At the tour destination, the Kemahdhöhe, you will find the Sportalm Radstadt, which invites you to take a cosy break.

Fageralm ski tour – Forstau | Easy to intermediate

Leisurely piste tour with beautiful panorama

The ski tour on the Fageralm in Forstau is one of the popular piste tours in the Schladming-Dachstein region. The ascent starts at the valley station of the Fageralm cable car and follows the marked ascent track steadily uphill to the sunny high plateau at the Hinterfager mountain station.

Once at the top, ski tourers are rewarded with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. The area around the Goliath Giant Swing is particularly popular.

Note: Please note that a ticket is required to use the designated ski touring route on the Fageralm.

Brief route description
The ascent starts directly at the valley station of the Fageralm cable car. From there, the marked ascent track follows the piste steadily uphill towards the high plateau.

The route is well laid out and is therefore particularly popular with beginners and leisure tourers. If you wish, you can also start the ascent at the mid-station and choose a shorter section.  

Once at the top, a wide view opens up over the surrounding mountains of the Schladming-Dachstein region. The descent then follows the groomed ski pistes back into the valley.

Kleinarlhütte 1,756 m | Intermediate

Ski tour to a sunny mountain hut

This ski tour is one of the most beautiful tours in the Kleinarl region. The ascent follows the toboggan run up to the idyllic hut. From there, you can enjoy lovely views of the surrounding peaks such as Penkkopf and Thörlstein.

Many ski tourers combine the tour with a stop on the sunny hut terrace, or continue after a break to the surrounding peaks.

Brief route description
From the car park at the end of the toboggan run, the ascent follows the groomed toboggan run steadily uphill to the Kleinarlhütte. The route is easy to walk and very popular.

In the upper section, the ascent can be shortened slightly in places via open slopes or a ridge. From there, you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding mountain landscape.

The descent usually follows the ascent route.

Spirtzinger 2,066 m | Intermediate

Panoramic ski touring summit in the Radstadt Tauern
The Spirtzinger is one of the beautiful ski touring destinations in the Radstadt Tauern. The ascent leads through the expansive terrain around the Ennslehenhütte and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains along the way. From the summit, you can enjoy an impressive panorama over the snow-covered Tauern mountains.

Elevation gain: approx. 790 m
Difficulty: intermediate
Starting point: Vordere Gnadenalm (approx. 1,280 m)
Distance from Gut Weissenhof: approx. 25 minutes by car

Brief route description
From the car park at the Vordergnadenalm, the route first leads through the flat valley floor towards the Hintergnadenalm. From there, the track climbs along the hut path to the Ennslehenhütte. The further ascent leads up the distinctive southern slopes to the summit of the Spirtzinger at 2,066 m.

The descent usually follows the ascent route. With safe snow conditions, the eastern flank also offers a particularly beautiful descent back down.

Lackenkogel 2,051 m | Intermediate

Popular ski tour with a stunning view over the Enns Valley
The Lackenkogel is one of the well-known ski touring destinations in the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee region. The varied ascent leads over wide meadow slopes, through open high forest and across the alpine pasture terrain of the Lackenalmen. From the summit, you can enjoy an impressive view over the Enns Valley and the surrounding mountains.

Duration: approx. 2.5 to 3 hours ascent
Elevation gain: approx. 1,120 m
Difficulty: intermediate
Starting point: car park at Gasthaus Neuhäusl (approx. 930 m)
Distance from Gut Weissenhof: approx. 10 minutes by car

Brief route description
From the car park at Gasthaus Neuhäusl, the route first follows the path past the inn and across the cross-country ski trail to the open meadow slopes. From there, the track climbs in a south-westerly direction over meadows and short forest sections up to the Sattelbauer.

You then follow the marked path to the idyllic Lackenalm. From the hut, the ascent leads into the Lackensattel and then up the open larch ridge to the summit cross of the Lackenkogel at 2,051 m.

The descent usually follows the ascent route. For the section between Lackenalm and Sattelbauer, the descent via the alpine track is recommended.

Große Kesselspitze 2,361 m | Challenging

Impressive ski tour near Obertauern
The Große Kesselspitze is one of the well-known ski touring destinations in the Radstadt Tauern. The starting point is on the Radstadt Tauern Pass road between Obertauern and Tweng, making it easy to reach. The ascent first leads gently to the Gastalm and then through open larch forest towards the summit. The wide slopes in the upper section in particular offer an impressive ski touring experience.

Duration: approx. 2 to 2.5 hours ascent
Elevation gain: approx. 960 m
Difficulty: intermediate to challenging
Starting point: car park on the Radstadt Tauern road between Obertauern and Tweng
Distance from Gut Weissenhof: approx. 25 minutes by car

Brief route description
From the car park, the ascent first follows a forest road to the Gastalm. In places, the route can be shortened via forest sections. From the hut, you continue in a north-westerly direction through open larch forest to the foot of the south-eastern ridge.

Via this ridge, you reach a small saddle below the summit structure. The final metres to the summit are usually covered on foot. From the summit of the Große Kesselspitze, you can enjoy an impressive view over the surrounding peaks of the Radstadt Tauern.

The descent usually follows the ascent route. With very good snow conditions, a descent via the steep southern flank is also possible.

Kleiner Pleißlingkeil 2,417 m | Challenging

Classic ski tour from the Ennslehenhütte

The Kleiner Pleißlingkeil is one of the well-known ski touring destinations in the Radstadt Tauern. The ascent from the Vordere Gnadenalm to the hut often serves as a leisurely warm-up before the route continues into the open terrain below the summit. In the upper section in particular, ski tourers can expect an impressive high-alpine landscape.

Duration: approx. 3 to 4 hours ascent
Elevation gain: approx. 1,150 m
Difficulty: challenging
Starting point: Vordere Gnadenalm (approx. 1,280 m)
Distance from Gut Weissenhof: approx. 25 minutes by car

Brief route description
From the car park at the Vordergnadenalm, the route first leads through the flat valley floor towards the Hintergnadenalm and then along the hut path to the Ennslehenhütte. This section is well suited as a relaxed start to the tour.

From the hut, you continue southwards over undulating terrain towards the Scheibenkogel. From there, the track leads into a saddle and then continues over hollows and smaller ridges beneath the summit structure.

The final section follows the northern ridge to the summit of the Kleiner Pleißlingkeil at 2,417 m. Particular attention should be paid to possible cornices.

Steinfeldspitze 2,344 m – Bärenstaffl 2,144 m | Challenging

Challenging ski tour in the Radstadt Tauern

The Steinfeldspitze is one of the most impressive ski touring destinations in the Radstadt Tauern. The ascent leads into a striking high-alpine landscape around Zauchensee. The view from the saddle between Bärenstaffl and Steinfeldspitze is particularly impressive, offering a panoramic vista over the Haifechtenkessel and the surrounding peaks.

This tour is considered challenging and requires safe snow conditions as well as alpine experience.

Difficulty: challenging
Starting point: Zauchensee
Distance from Gut Weissenhof: approx. 20 minutes by car

Brief route description
The ascent starts in Zauchensee and initially leads towards the south-eastern slopes below the Steinfeldspitze. Via steeper sections, you reach the saddle between Bärenstaffl and Steinfeldspitze.

From there, a wide view opens up over the Haifechtenkessel and the further course of the tour. The final section then leads along the ridge to the summit of the Steinfeldspitze at 2,344 m.

The descent follows the ascent route and, depending on snow conditions, offers beautiful spring snow or deep-powder slopes.
