Cycling Holidays & Amadé Bike Marathon Info:
Radstadt, located on the Enns Bike Path, serves as your gateway to the youngest of Austria's major river routes. It certainly boasts some of the most beautiful countryside of any Austrian bike tour. A secret tip amongst nature lovers, the route leads through three Austrian provinces, Salzburg, Styria and Upper Austria, and through five tourism regions.
Imposing mountain personalities, wild and untamed valleys, rushing wildwater streams, enchanted villages and historic cities serve as your constant companions through the impressive alpine scenery and the unique natural backdrops between the Dachstein and Niedere Tauern, Salzkammergut, Gesäuse and the Reichraminger Hintergebirge.
At 98 and 176 kilometers, the Amadé Bike Marathon is a perfectly tailored challenge for the early part of the season, both for experienced competitive cyclists and for rookie marathoners. The toughest climb is right at the start up into the Ramsau region. At an elevation of 1200 m, this is actually the highest point of the race.
The A course covers 2,490 vertical meters, the B course 1,400 m. The start, as always, is at 7:30 a.m. on the town square in Radstadt. For more info, please visit www.radmarathon.com.
If you don't always keep your eyes focused on the back tire of the man in front of you, you will definitely be richly rewarded during the Amadé Bike Marathon: The broad valley basin of the young Enns river, the fantastic panorama with views of the Dachstein, Bischofsmütze and Tauern, and the avid spectators along the route cheering bikers on.
This year's dates have already been set, with the 17th Amadé Bike Marathon taking place on Sunday, 16 May 2010.

The Enns Bike Path: To your left the Dachstein Massif, to the right the Niedere Tauern, between them the peacefully flowing Enns - the starting point for a bike route filled with variety. Crystal-clear swimming lakes, medieval cities, romantic Schloss Trautenfels and imposing Admont Benedictine abbey all lie along the route to the "Gesäuse", the most spectacular stretch of the Enns river. The wild and romantic Reichraminger Hintergebirge also entices with its natural beauty. The last stage is rich in attractions and sights, ending in Enns, the oldest town in Upper Austria. Taurach Bike Path: The Tauern Bike Path: St. Johann, with its imposing "Pinzgau Cathedral", is the starting point for one of the most magical bike routes in Europe. Here it follows flat to slightly hilly routes, almost completely free of traffic, along the banks of the Salzach, via Werfen with its giant ice caves and Hohenwerfen castle, past romantic Golling Waterfall to the old Celtic and salt-mining town of Hallein, and finally to the Festival City, Salzburg. From here, we continue along the Bavarian stretch of the Saalach river towards Lofer and Zell am See, where there is an opportunity to circumnavigate the Zeller See. The variant via Krimml is rewarding not least because of the famous Krimml Waterfalls. Finally the tour leads back via Schwarzach to St. Johann, including picturesque Liechtenstein Gorge. |
