Dear guest of Gut Weissenhof, enjoy Salzburg year-round!
Particularly well-known and renowned for the Salzburg Festival, the Easter Festival and Mozart Week, which takes place annually during the height of summer. Visitors experience Salzburg's unique charm here along the banks of the Salzach. Take a leisurely stroll through the narrow streets of the Old City, especially the world-famous Getreidegasse. The people of Salzburg themselves love nothing more than to frequent the beautiful squares, gardens and markets of their city.
Springtime in Salzburg conjures up a fresh green in this ancient city of the prince archbishops. Outdoor restaurants open up again, the coffee and Salzburger Nockerl tasting especially good when enjoyed out on pleasant terraces …
An insider tip amongst Salzburgers is the Steinterrasse, from which you are able to enjoy superb views out across the historic City of Mozart, Salzburg, or, on the other hand, the terrace of Café Bazar right on the banks of the Salzach. In high summer, a mild light penetrates through to the narrow, pleasantly cool lanes of Salzburg…
The only reason to get hot-under-the-collar whilst strolling Salzburg's streets are its many beautiful, variety-filled shops. In autumn, the tones of jazz music echo through the city … the already well-established Jazzherbst festival keeps its doors open to jazz fans from around the world. The guests of Gut Weissenhof and the locals enjoy a wide selection of theatrical and concert performances.
We, the Gut Weissenhof Team, are more than happy to assist you in navigating the wealth of concerts, stage productions and festivals held here in Salzburg.
In winter, Salzburg also wears a dress of white, the air is fresh and clear - and December, especially, with its Advent festivities, is indisputably one of the most beautiful times of year in Salzburg City. When the first snowflakes fall from the sky, the children build snowmen in Mirabell Gardens and the smell of hot spiced wine and gingerbread wafts through the streets, even "hard-cases" turn into true romantics.
The historic Salzburg Christmas Market, which is staged on Cathedral and Residenzplatz squares, has been held since the 15th century. Hellbrunn Advent Magic, too, has a very special flair…courtesy of old Hellbrunn Palace.

Gut Weissenhof – Enjoy a walking tour of Salzburg
On foot, or perhaps even by horse-drawn carriage, guests of Gut Weissenhof are able to enjoy fascinating tours of Salzburg City.
The Residenzplatz:
The focal
point of the city with its baroque fountain. The square is surrounded by the
Residenz, the cathedral, St. Michael's Church and the glockenspiel.
The Getreidegasse:
With its
beautiful houses and narrow facades from the 15th to 18th centuries, this street
is truly captivating. To this day, the buildings still bear ornate, wrought-iron
guild signs, both past and present.
The Cathedral:
This
masterpiece of baroque architecture was constructed in 1614 under Markus Sittikus
and his court architect, Santino Solari. After restorations of recent years, the
cathedral is again radiant in renewed splendor.
The Fortress:
Hohensalzburg
Fortress, whose appearance is the result of numerous remodeling efforts and
additions, is generally held to be the largest, fully-preserved castle in
Central Europe, spanning an area of 14,000 square meters. The beginning of this
fortress was a wooden barracks building, almost impossible for us to imagine
today, atop the city mountain, left behind by Archbishop Gebhard. The total
building period from start to finish (in the 16th century) was around 500 years.
Mozart's Birthplace:
In the
heart of the Getreidegasse is the house where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart first saw
the light of day. The Mozart family lived here from 1747 to 1773. Today,
some 3,000 people a day stream through their former 3-room apartment.
Schloss Hellbrunn:
Schloss Hellbrunn,
with its spacious grounds, was built from 1613-1619 and patterned after Roman
villas. It was presumably designed by cathedral architect Santino Solari
for Markus Sittikus. The impressive palace grounds, which include the famous
pleasure gardens, comprise some 60 hectares. Immediately adjacent to the
grounds is the zoo, which once also belonged to the palace.
The Festspielhaus:
Actually,
it would be more appropriate to talk of the Festival District, for here we find
the Felsenreitschule, as well as the Kleines and Grosses Festspielhaus. Behind the rather
understated facade of the festival complex, we find true treasures. The
three-storey arcaded galleries of the Felsenreitschule, Michael Rottmayr's
gigantic ceiling fresco, as well as the marble statuary of Bertoni and Oskar Kokoschka's
Goblin in the Grosses Festspielhaus.
